Red face Elkhound in Heat

Hi, I have a 4yr old Norwegian Elkhound who has been in heat for over a week now. Normally, there is no change in her except for the obvious signs. However, for the past two nights I've had to get up 2-3 times to let her out to pee, which she does straight away, but then continues to keep squatting all over the garden as if she's peeing again, but shes not! This is totally abnormal behaviour for her. She is eating and drinking as normal and seems well in every other way. Anyone else experience this???

No, they didnt seem to be, she went back to normal again in a week or so and is fine since. Just thought it was strange as that never happened before.

Glad to hear things settled down.

It could have been a whole load of things, for example a urinary tract infection. The stuff I've read is that up to 15% of dogs can get UTI during their lives. Thre reason I mention it is , that dogs trying to pee, but failing, is a classic sign of a UTI, as they feel the need to pee, but as their bladder is empty, they can't.

Seeing as the dog is okay I guess we don't have to worry too much now. :
