Default Dogs in Heat

Hi All,

looking for some advise if possible. We have a 9 month old boxer, bought her when she was 6 months, she was due to get spayed next week but went into heat on friday (well she started to bleed on friday so must be near her second week as far as i can make out. My problem is both myself and my partner work monday to friday and this week our dog would be alone for about 6 hours a day. She is used to being out side as she has big kennell and we have big garden. when left alone inside she can cause alot of damage. Is it for the full 21 days of a dog being in heat that she cannot be left alone outside or is it only when the bleeding actually stops that she will go mad to get out and dogs will go mad to get in to her?? Have check out the internet but alot of conflicting info so not sure what to go by and i obviously want to protect her and do our best for her. Thanks in advance

Hi Noodles,

Do you have a dog pen ? or an enclosed garden ?
As for dog heat cycles , our research has found that they can indeed get pregnant in this 21 day window.

I would also avoid bringing her on long walks, as she will scent everything with her urine, and the male dogs will pick that up too.

Well I guess the next steps would be to get her neutered once she's done. Best of luck with her !

To avoid other dogs hanging around outside, try to get her to pee in a park away from your house.

Sounds like you have your hands full there, the sooner you get her neutered the better all round.

There is a theory that you should "allow" your puppy have one litter, but I don't agree with this idea tbh.

Hiya, the vet went through all of the arguments for and against her having a litter and if one of us didnt work i would be up for it but we dont have the time to give her and her pups so wouldnt be fair. I want to get her neutured but feel sorry in doing so too but it really is the best thing for her and i would hate to take them all away from her then if she had pups!! i would end up keeping one and then it would be chaos! ha!!
