Hi
Sorry for this really naive question but my german shephard who is in heat legged it out the front gate this morning to spend time with terrier who has a maximum height of 18 inches. I know this was the only dog that she was with and was with him for about 40 mins, but here's my "green" question, someone told me that she would lie down for him, is this true?

Hi All,

looking for some advise if possible. We have a 9 month old boxer, bought her when she was 6 months, she was due to get spayed next week but went into heat on friday (well she started to bleed on friday so must be near her second week as far as i can make out. My problem is both myself and my partner work monday to friday and this week our dog would be alone for about 6 hours a day. She is used to being out side as she has big kennell and we have big garden. when left alone inside she can cause alot of damage. Is it for the full 21 days of a dog being in heat that she cannot be left alone outside or is it only when the bleeding actually stops that she will go mad to get out and dogs will go mad to get in to her?? Have check out the internet but alot of conflicting info so not sure what to go by and i obviously want to protect her and do our best for her. Thanks in advance

Hi, I have a 4yr old Norwegian Elkhound who has been in heat for over a week now. Normally, there is no change in her except for the obvious signs. However, for the past two nights I've had to get up 2-3 times to let her out to pee, which she does straight away, but then continues to keep squatting all over the garden as if she's peeing again, but shes not! This is totally abnormal behaviour for her. She is eating and drinking as normal and seems well in every other way. Anyone else experience this???

Hi there,
i am new to this site thought it would be best to get advise from dog lovers like me. Myself and my fiance moved into our house 3 years ago and we have always wanted a dog. I grew up with dogs and even when we moved iin together instead of bringing my dog with us (my parents would have been heart broken!) i brought her down to our house most friday evenings after work and brought her back up on sundays. she was a boxer and loved her so much, she died last summer aged 12 1/2. We both work full time myself monday to friday 9-5 and himself working on shifts one week nights, one week early mornings and another week middle shift 2-10. We def have the energy between us to walk and care so much for a medium size dog however is it mean of us to have one if it will be alone for maybe 5-6 hours a day?? we both work in dublin and live in kildare so travelling time etc this is how long it will be alone for. My fiance says we can give it one of the best homes in the country so we should not be worrying about that sort of thing. What is your opinions/advise and if so what type of dog do you think would suit us?? it is his birthday in April and i would love to surprise him with one so we can start our family i guess! we are getting married in December!! sorry for the essay! he he!:)

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with dog behaviour and can help advise me.

I have a 6 year old female staffie cross who is temermental at the best of times shes very choosy about what dogs she likes, some she will snarl at on walks, others she loves to play with.

Yesterday we rescued a 4 month old puppy staffie cross male, we put him straight into a crate to allow her to get used to him, her behaviour has been confsuing and I dont want to let him out until I'm sure shes not going to do him harm.

whats happening is, he cries and she goes running to him, a lot of the time shes trying to clean him we have seen a lot of licking eachothers noses, shes licked his tail, paws etc.

But then shes also biting his nose through the bars at times.

Theres lots of vocalisation going on between them mostly whining and talking and the odd barking session but no 'growling' as such.

I'm sure she wants to clean him cos he stinks of the pound. or also she could just want him out of 'her' crate.

Tails are wagging a lot side to side while they are whining and talking.

The older dog is understably very stressed but im not sure if its because she wants rid of hm or shes concerned for him as hes crying a lot.

any advice would be grateful.

many thanks
